This medicinal product is a progestogen hormone treatment. It is indicated in disorders related to progesterone deficiency:
Via the oral route:
|In cases of irregular cycles due to ovulation disorders,|
|In treatment of the menopause (in association with oestrogen therapy).|
Via the vaginal route:
To assist pregnancy, particularly:
|In the case of recurrent abortions,|
|During in-vitro fertilization cycles (IVF).|
In all the other indications of treatment by progesterone, the vaginal route can replace the oral route in the case of undesirable side effects due to progesterone (drowsiness, dizzy spells).

Warnings and precautions
|This medicinal product is not a treatment of all the causes of spontaneous early abortion, and in particular it has no effect on those due to genetic accidents (more than half of abortions).|
|During pregnancy the administration of PROGEFFIK is reserved for the first trimester, only via the vaginal route. During the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy, a risk of hepatic side effects exists.|
|The treatment used in the recommended conditions is not contraceptive.|
Precautions for use
If this medicinal product has been prescribed via the oral route, we recommend to take this product away from mealtimes and preferably in the evening at bedtime.
Pregnancy and breast feeding
A large amount of data on pregnant women (more than 1000 pregnancy outcomes) indicate no malformative nor foetal/neonatal toxicity of Progesterone.

Driving and using machines
For those driving or using machines, you should note that there is a risk of drowsiness and/or dizzy spells when this medicinal product is taken orally.
How to take PROGEFFIK soft oral or vaginal capsule
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.
On average, in cases of progesterone deficiency, the dose is of 200 to 300 mg per day, divided into one or two intakes: 200 mg in the morning and 100 or 200 mg in the evening at bedtime.
In certain cases, particularly to assist pregnancy, your doctor may increase the dose prescribed up to 600 mg per day, divided into three intakes.
In any event, the dose must not exceed 200 mg per single oral or vaginal intake.
Two administration routes are possible: the oral and the vaginal route. Your doctor will prescribe the administration route most adapted to your case.
|Via the oral route, swallow the capsule with a glass of water, away from mealtimes, in one or three intakes depending on the therapeutic regimen prescribed.|
|Via the vaginal route, insert each capsule deeply into the vagina.|
If you forget to take PROGEFFIK soft oral or vaginal capsule
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
The active ingredient is progesterone.
The other ingredients are arachis oil and soy lecithin.
The capsule itself is made of gelatin, glycerol and titanium dioxide (E171).
